The Clean Cookstoves Lab focuses on the testing, design, and development of low emissions, high efficiency wood burning cookstoves. Our research includes determining innovative ways of increasing the heat transfer efficiency and reducing pollutant emissions, chiefly particulate matter and carbon monoxide, from natural draft cookstoves and applying these results to create cleaner, safer cookstoves. Specific research projects include user-centered design of a Tier 4 side-fed natural draft cookstove for East Africa, real-time particulate emissions monitoring system, and high fidelity numerical simulation of cookstoves with special focus on modeling particulate matter emission.
